Specific performance is more commonly awarded under contracts for the sale of goods1 than under contracts for bailments, and only rarely in the former context, but it is not difficult to envisage its award in the context of bailment: for example, a contract to lend a particular picture which is central to a major exhibition of an artist’s work, or a contract to lease a specific piece of equipment known to be required for an urgent and short-term purpose2.
