The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published Working Paper 7 (WP7) which sets out the appropriate type of remedies that may be available where an adverse effect on competition is identified during its market investigation into the supply of mobile browsers and mobile browser engines, and the distribution of cloud gaming services through app stores on mobile devices. This follows the CMA’s announcement in June 2022 to investigate Apple and Google’s market power in mobile browsers and Apple's restrictions on cloud gaming through the Apple App Store. WP7 sets out the evidence that the CMA has gathered during the investigation to date and sets out the framework for the assessment and selection of remedies, alongside any potential issues relating to the remedies. WP7 should be read alongside the previous six working papers published during the investigation. The CMA has also published Verian’s final report on its research on UK smartphone users which sought to understand consumer behaviour in the mobile browser market, with a particular focus on the role of preinstallation and the drivers of browser choice on smartphone devices. Verian Group UK, which was appointed by the CMA to conduct the research as part of its investigation, sets out a summary of the main findings of its quantitative and qualitative research.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published a Remedies Working Paper seeking views on the effectiveness of a proposed remedy package for the Vodafone/Three merger proposal. This package would alleviate the CMA's concerns after it provisionally found in September 2024 that the merger could lead to higher prices for customers and harm the position of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs). In the paper, the CMA provisionally finds that a legally binding commitment to undertake the network integration and investment programme proposed by the two companies would significantly improve the quality of the merged company’s mobile network, boosting competition between mobile network operators in the long term and benefiting customers. The CMA also found that short-term protection would be needed to ensure that retail consumers and MVNOs can continue to secure good deals during the initial years of network integration and investment roll-out. The CMA consultation on the paper runs until 5 pm on 12 November 2024.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has reviewed methods in which grocery retailers display their prices in-store to assess whether they were clear, accurate and matched the price people were charged at the till. After on-site inspections of 139 grocery stores, the most common types of issues seen were missing prices, conflicting prices and prices not being displayed sufficiently close to products. The CMA and Trading Standards (TS) have published compliance materials as a result of these findings, aiming to aid grocery retailers comprehension on what they need to do to comply with the law.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published its response to the consultation on draft consumer law compliance advice for businesses marketing green heating and insulation products, which it launched in December 2023. The consultation followed concerns of potentially misleading claims about green heating and insulation products and the provision of limited and inconsistent price information. The response sets out stakeholders' main comments and the CMA's response to them, as well as the corresponding changes it has made to the final advice. Amendments made by the CMA include clarification that the draft covers solar PV panels, and that the advice applies to marketing practices on any marketing channel, including verbal claims made in person or over the phone. The CMA has now published its final compliance advice. Alongside the compliance advice, the CMA has also published some short videos and checklists for businesses summarising the principles which are designed to help them comply with the law.

The consultation, which ran from 21 January 2026 to 18 February 2026, received 21 written submissions and engaged over 60 organisations through various forums, including the CMA's Growth and Investment Council and Consumer Forum. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published correspondence with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, in which the Secretary of State asked the CMA to consider carrying out a review of competition in the home heating market. The Secretary of State noted the importance of the home heating market to the country’s net zero ambitions and requested the review to understand whether any weaknesses in competition are contributing to prices being higher than they would in a well-functioning market, as the sector transitions to low-carbon heating. The CMA acknowledged the Secretary of State’s concerns and committed to considering such a review in the second half of 2024, noting the CMA’s large portfolio of existing work, but continued to state that any output from the CMA would likely include recommendations back to government to address issues that may be identified.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published a discussion paper setting out how price transparency (PT) schemes, enabled by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA), could support consumer confidence and effective competition in UK markets. The paper highlights the planned Fuel Finder scheme, expected to be operational by the end of 2025, which is estimated to deliver consumer savings of £10.1bn over a ten-year appraisal period.
