What is BREEAM? The Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) is a method for evaluating and certifying the environmental performance of a building’s design, construction and operation. A BREEAM score and rating are assigned to BREEAM certified buildings providing a means of measuring the environmental impact of a building’s design and construction and so benchmarking this against other certified buildings. BREEAM is owned, maintained and managed by BRE Global Ltd. BRE Global Ltd provides licenses to independent trained and qualified BREEAM Assessors who undertake BREEAM assessments. In a Parliamentary answer on 25 January 2024, the Minister for Legal Migration and the Border, Tom Pursglove MP, stated that the Home Office is anticipating that existing leave holders with a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), and new applicants for leave, will be able to create a UKVI account from April 2024. This is in relation to digital status, which the Home Office plans to replace BRPs in full from the beginning of 2025. Currently digital status(eVisas) is confined to certain types of applicants only. Existing BRP holders will have to create an account in order to obtain digital status, this will not happen automatically. In his statement, the Minister went on to confirm that from that date, the Home Office ‘will begin contacting customers directly via email where possible, and will utilise a range of additional communication channels to inform customers of the need to take action to create an account before their BRP cards expire at the end of 2024’.
