HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) has issued an updated version of leaflet EX727, explaining how an unpaid employment tribunal or Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) award can be enforced using a High Court Enforcement Officer (HCEO) under the Acas and Employment Tribunal fast track, operated by Registry Trust Limited. The latest August 2023 version replaces the previous August 2016 version.

The Office for Equality and Opportunity and Women and Equalities Unit have published a report by the Behavioural Insights Team into evidence-based actions for employers to reduce the gender pay gap and improve gender equality in the workplace. This replaces the last report, published in 2021. The statutory guidance for employers on gender pay gap reporting has been updated to refer to the updated report.

The report looks at how employers can eradicate ineffective, divisive, and poor quality D&I practices, and focus on alternative resources which have been backed by evidence in a manner that provides value for money.

The government has published a response to its consultation on strengthening the law on tipping, which ran between 5 February and 1 April 2026, together with a draft updated Code of Practice. Subject to parliamentary approval of the updated Code, commencement regulations will bring the new measures (set out in section 14 of the Employment Rights Act 2025 (ERA 2025)) and the updated Code into effect in October 2026.

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has published its response to the consultation ‘Making Work Pay: call for evidence on unpaid internships’. The consultation sought views on banning unpaid internships unrelated to education, defining ‘intern’ in legislation, compensation and duration limits for work trials, safeguards and expense reimbursement for voluntary workers and volunteers and whether work shadowing should be defined and time-limited. The consultation ran from 17 July 2025 to 9 October 2025.

Family analysis: The government has published its response to the consultation on early resolution in private family law proceedings, ruling out compulsory mediation at this stage, while setting out proposals for pilot schemes to fund the provision of early legal advice for parents and to extend the private children Pathfinder pilot, together with planned changes to the mediation information and assessment (MIAM) requirements via amendments to the Family Procedure Rules 2010 (FPR 2010).

The government has published two written statements, made in the House of Commons and House of Lords, on the implementation of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA 2024). The statements, from Justin Madders, Minister for Employment Rights, Competition and Markets, and Baroness Jones of Whitchurch, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, highlight the importance of implementing the DMCCA 2024 as soon as possible to enable businesses and consumer reap its benefits and set out the key steps that must be taken, alongside the government’s plans for the implementation of the DMCCA 2024.

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have published a series of guides on the new statutory neonatal care leave and pay entitlement, effective from 6 April 2025. The legislation gives eligible parents up to 12 weeks of additional leave and pay if their child requires neonatal care for at least seven consecutive days within 28 days of birth. The guides cover statutory neonatal care pay and leave, business changes that affect payment if statutory neonatal care pay, implementation requirements for employers, including eligibility criteria, payment calculations, and record-keeping obligations. A statutory neonatal care pay record form (NEO2) provides employers with a standardised format for recording employee statutory neonatal care pay details.

The government has published a new document: Strategic steer to the Fair Work Agency, that explains the context for the establishment of the Fair Work Agency (FWA) and sets out priority areas for year one delivery and expectations around organisational readiness and operational impact. Natural England and the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) have released a collection of tools and resources to calculate nutrient budgets in nutrient neutrality catchments. Developers are now mandated to use nutrient budget calculations to ensure that new residential development in the 27 nutrient neutrality habitats sites does not bring about a net increase in nutrient pollution. In order to fulfil these requirements, nutrient neutrality calculators have been created for proposed developments in each of the different catchment areas. Aside from developers, the nutrient neutrality calculators can also be used by local planning authorities who need to understand the mitigation requirements for future developments or to assess planning applications, as well as environmental groups who want to understand the impacts of a local development on a habitat site affected by nutrient neutrality.
