The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced that it will launch a new portal called 'My FCA' for registered and authorised firms in Spring 2025. My FCA will offer features such as viewing regulatory returns, completing attestations, accessing system notices and updates, looking up rules and guidance, checking firms on the Financial Services Register and calculating annual fees using the Fees Calculator. The portal will provide a centralised platform to access RegData, Connect, and the Online Invoicing System without needing to sign in again.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced the launch of its Smart Data Accelerator, aimed at supporting the development of open finance and smart data frameworks. The platform is for firms testing use cases, organisations seeking collaboration and stakeholders involved in smart data policy and research. It focuses on four areas: use case testing, policy testing, international and cross-sector testing, and data and technology infrastructure.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has secured a conviction against Nicholas Harper for breaching the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018), while a jury acquitted him of fraud and unauthorised business offences. On 1 September 2025, Harper pleaded guilty to encouraging or assisting an offence under DPA 2018. At a retrial on 19 September 2025 at Southwark Crown Court, the jury found him not guilty of conspiracy to defraud under the Criminal Law Act 1977 and the Fraud Act 2006, and not guilty of conspiracy to breach the general prohibition under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA 2000). Harper was fined £100 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge for the data protection breach.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that establishes the framework for co-ordination between HM Treasury (HMT), the Bank of England, the Prudential Regulation Authority and the FCA regarding Overseas Recognition Regimes. These regimes enable HMT, with Parliamentary oversight, to designate the regulatory frameworks of non-UK jurisdictions for financial services, allowing for partial, time-limited, or conditional recognition. HMT has also published a guidance document outlining the principles and processes which govern the UK’s Overseas Recognition Regimes.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced a refresh of its Sustainable Finance Advisory Committee and is seeking expressions of interest from individuals to join the committee, which advises the FCA board on sustainability issues, including the UK's commitment to achieving a net zero economy by 2050. Membership is open to external experts with in-depth knowledge of sustainable finance, appointed for a three-year term with a maximum of two terms. Candidates are expected not to be currently employed by FCA-regulated firms and must adhere to a conflict of interest policy. The FCA is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in insurance, wholesale banking, and consumer advocacy. Responses are sought by 9 May 2025.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published feedback statement FS25/2 outlining its programme of action to simplify regulatory requirements following the introduction of the Consumer Duty.  The statement sets out commitments, alongside key dates, which the FCA says aim to address longstanding concerns from firms about the length and complexity of FCA rules and guidance.  The FCA seeks to foster more effective competition and innovation by reducing regulatory complexity and cutting the cost of regulation while maintaining consumer protection standards. The FCA will host a summit in summer 2025 to gather further input, with a full work programme to be published in September 2025.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced that retail consumers will regain access to crypto exchange traded notes (cETNs) from 8 October 2025, reversing the January 2021 ban on these products. cETNs will need to be traded on FCA-approved, UK-based recognised investment exchanges, and financial promotion rules will be enforced to ensure that consumers receive appropriate information and are not attracted by unsuitable investment incentives.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced that Guy Flintham has been sentenced to six years’ imprisonment at Southwark Crown Court. Flintham defrauded over 240 investors through false representations, making them invest approximately £19m in an investment scheme which he operated.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced that seven social media influencers have been sentenced at Southwark Crown Court after pleading guilty to issuing unauthorised financial promotions in connection with an unauthorised foreign exchange trading scheme. Lauren Goodger received the highest fine of £3,750 plus £5,778.18 costs, while penalties for the other defendants—Biggs Chris, Jamie Clayton, Rebecca Gormley, Yazmin Oukhellou, Scott Timlin and Eva Zapico—ranged from absolute discharge to fines of £974, with all ordered to pay costs. The combined Instagram following of the individuals totalled 4.5 million. Steve Smart, executive director of enforcement and market oversight at the FCA, stated the regulator would continue pursuing those who put followers' financial wellbeing at risk.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced that Redinel Korfuzi and his sister, Oerta Korfuzi, have been sentenced to a total of 11 years’ imprisonment for offences under the Criminal Justice Act 1993 (CJA 1993), section 52(1) (insider dealing) and the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (POCA 2002), section 327 (money laundering). The convictions follow an 18-week trial at Southwark Crown Court in a prosecution brought by the FCA using its powers under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA 2000) to investigate and prosecute insider dealing.  Redinel, formerly a research analyst at Janus Henderson, used confidential information obtained through his role to trade in shares ahead of market announcements. He passed this information to his sister. The trading activity, which took place between 17 December 2019 and 25 March 2021, generated profits exceeding £960,000. The FCA has commenced confiscation proceedings under POCA 2002 to recover the benefit of the offending.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is using its powers under s166 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA 2000) to review historical motor finance commission arrangements and sales across several firms. Policy statement PS24/1: Temporary changes to handling rules for motor finance complaints, introduces a pause, without consultation, from 11 January 2024, to the eight-week deadline for motor finance firms to provide a final response to relevant customer complaints. The pause will apply to complaints about motor finance agreements where there was a discretionary commission arrangement (DCA) between the lender and the broker and will last for 37 weeks (approximately nine months). It applies to complaints received by firms on or after 17 November 2023 and on or before 25 September 2024.
