The European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) has published its Banking Union annual report for 2023, in which it asks the European Commission to retain the completion of the Banking Union and the Capital Markets Union as key priorities for the remainder of its current mandate and for its next mandate. The report also calls on EU banks, the Commission and national and EU supervisory authorities to prepare for a potential deterioration in asset quality.

The European Parliament has published a briefing/scrutiny paper on the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (EU SFDR): draft amendments to the Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/1288 (the EU SFDR RTS) which will be discussed at an upcoming scrutiny session. These amendments were proposed by the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) and relate to social principal adverse impacts (PAI) indicators and the disclosure of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets.

MEPs in the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) have voted to adopt two reports in relation to proposals to improve consumer protection and competition in electronic payments. Plenary is expected to vote on both texts during the first plenary session in April 2024. Negotiations between Parliament and Council are then expected to start after the elections.

The Employer Covenant Practitioners Association (ECPA) has expressed support for the Pensions Regulator's (TPR)’s final consultation response on its Statement of Strategy, published on 28 May 2025. TPR's response introduces proportionate covenant assessment requirements tailored to scheme size and risk level, including specific easements for small and low-risk schemes. The framework also permits the inclusion of additional contextual information and the use of minimum figures to streamline the analysis process. As part of the valuation documentation, TPR has also rolled out a digital service for submitting the Statement of Strategy, enabling schemes operating under the new defined benefit funding regime to file valuations electronically.

The European Council on Refugees and Exiles has published the Asylum Information Database (AIDA) country report on the UK providing a detailed overview of legislative and practice-related developments in asylum procedures, reception conditions, detention of asylum applicants and content of international protection in 2025.

The report covers access to asylum procedure and registration, procedures, guarantees for vulnerable groups, reception conditions, detention, and content of international protection (eg family reunification, employment etc). The report is up to date as of 31 December 2023.

The European Central Securities Depositories Association (ECSDA) has issued a call for action in relation to the EU’s capital markets competitiveness and highlighted measures that could further strengthen Europe’s capital markets integration and growth from a post-trade perspective. ECSDA says key elements that continue to act as material barriers to market integration and fragmentation include securities law, market specificities and tax procedures.
