The release provides enhanced insights into pension participation across all employees—not just those eligible for automatic enrolment (AE), and includes new breakdowns by geography, industry and contribution rates. While participation rose steadily during AE rollout, recent years show stabilised participation and contribution levels. The release also includes updated methodology, definitions, and data limitations, offering a comprehensive view of long-term savings behaviours in the UK workplace pension landscape.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued its latest release of statistics on workplace pension participation and savings trends between 2009 and 2023. This is the eleventh edition in the series and provides two new additions to the statistical series, offering information on the workplace pension participation of all employees, not just those eligible for automatic enrolment, as well as information on the trend in private pension withdrawals.

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has published a consultation seeking views on draft legislation, the Occupational Pension Schemes (Collective Money Purchase Schemes) (Extension to Unconnected Multiple Employer Schemes and Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations 2025, needed to extend a new type of pension provision beyond a single or connected Collective Defined Contribution (CDC) scheme. It removes the exclusion of unconnected multiple employers CDC schemes from running under the current CDC provisions and explains what CDC schemes which are whole-life unconnected employer schemes must do in order to become authorised and operate effectively under regulatory oversight. The consultation will run until 19 November 2024.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published its response to a consultation on the Occupational Pension Schemes (Collective Money Purchase Schemes) (Extension to Unconnected Multiple Employer Schemes and Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations 2025. The regulations, which extend the collective defined contribution (CDC) framework to ‘unconnected multiple employer’ schemes, ie schemes not established by a single employer or group of connected employers, have been laid in draft before Parliament. These regulations are expected to come into force on 31 July 2026, subject to parliamentary approval.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published a discussion paper seeking views on the detailed design of its proposed Scale Policy for multi-employer defined contribution (DC) workplace pension schemes ahead of a consultation on draft regulations in 2027. The discussion paper forms part of the implementation of the Pension Schemes Act 2026 and seeks stakeholder views on three key elements of the policy: (1) main scale default arrangements (MSDAs); (2) common investment strategies (CISs); and (3) the treatment of connected schemes, which will determine how schemes meet the new statutory scale requirements. Responses are sought by 7 September 2026.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Government Social Research Profession has released the final report from the evaluation of the local grant element of the 2022-2025 Reducing Parental Conflict (RPC) programme. The report, based on research conducted from March 2023 to August 2024, provides insights into how English local authorities utilised the grant funding to embed RPC practices into local family and children's services. Key findings in the report include the successful embedding of RPC support in broader family services, increased practitioner awareness and confidence in addressing parental conflict, and generally positive experiences reported by parents accessing RPC interventions. The evaluation also identified challenges such as resource constraints, long wait times in some areas and varying capabilities in monitoring and evaluation across local authorities. The report provides insight for local authorities on implementing and sustaining RPC initiatives within their family support services.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published guidance on the Youth Jobs Grant, which opened for applications across Great Britain on 30 June 2026. The scheme allows eligible employers to claim up to £3,000 per job where they recruit 18–24-year-olds who have been on Universal Credit for six months or more. To qualify, the role must last at least four months, involve at least 25 hours’ work per week, pay at least the applicable minimum wage and not replace an existing worker.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published guidance which sets out a staged timetable for occupational pensions schemes and personal and stakeholder pension providers to be connected to the pensions dashboards ecosystem, the deadline of which is 31 October 2026. Trustees or managers of such schemes and relevant providers are legally required to take the guidance into account when preparing to connect to the pensions dashboards ecosystem. Failure to do so would be a breach of the Pensions Dashboards Regulations 2022 and the Financial Conduct Authority’s Handbook which sets out the requirement.

Guided Retirement is intended to improve retirement outcomes by requiring workplace pension schemes to offer default pension arrangements. The principles explain the legislative and regulatory framework for Guided Retirement and the outcomes that default pensions are intended to deliver, as well as their role in helping savers secure a sustainable retirement income without having to make complex financial decisions. The framework is intended to provide a straightforward retirement pathway while preserving members’ freedom of choice.
