The European Commission has launched a consultation on proposed ecodesign requirements for iron and steel products, as part of the EU’s broader efforts to reduce emissions and improve sustainability in the steel sector under the Clean Industrial Deal and the Steel and Metals Action Plan. The consultation closes on 12 August 2026.

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA) has launched a targeted consultation to assess the effectiveness of the EU securitisation framework, which was introduced in 2019 with the aim to promote an EU securitisation market that finances the economy without creating risks to financial stability. Responses are sought by 4 December 2024.

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on its evaluation of Regulation (EU) 598/2014 (Balanced Approach Regulation (BAR)), which establishes a process for Member States to manage noise problems at EU airports. The Regulation aims to provide a framework for noise management that increases the sustainability of air transport while ensuring that the economic impact of measures on all stakeholders is considered. The evaluation will assess the BAR's effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence and EU added value, including its economic, social and environmental impacts and whether it remains fit for purpose. The consultation is aimed at key stakeholders including: (1) competent noise and other national and regional authorities; (2) airport owners and operators; (3) air carriers; (4) environmental NGOs; (5) trade unions; (6) groundhandling companies; (7) air navigation service providers and (8) airport slots coordinators. The Commission indicates that a final version is planned for Q4 2026. The consultation closes on 19 November 2026.

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the evaluation of EU plant variety rights legislation, seeking feedback from stakeholders on the effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence and EU added value of the Community Plant Variety Rights (CPVR) framework and the performance of the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO). The consultation aims to gather evidence and data from stakeholders across the agricultural, horticultural, ornamental, fruit and forest reproductive material sectors, as well as from competent authorities, scientific networks and civil society organisations. The consultation closes on 20 April 2026.

The European Commission has opened a public consultation on the evaluation and possible revision of Market Surveillance Regulation (EU) 2019/1020, as required under Article 42(1). The regulation aims to improve single market functioning through better compliance with EU product harmonisation legislation, with Commission adoption of any changes planned for Q3 2026. The consultation ends on 4 February 2026.

The European Commission has launched a consultation on the draft delegated regulation which seeks to update the rules for the Union Database on Biofuels (UDB) under Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (the Renewable Energy Directive) and Directive (EU) 2023/2413 (the revised Renewable Energy Directive). The draft delegated regulation aims to improve the traceability of data along the supply chain by ensuring that only sustainable volumes of renewable fuels and recycled carbon fuels are counted towards decarbonisation targets. It also extends the scope of traceability in the UDB by cover data from the point of production or collection of the raw materials used to produce biofuels. The deadline for responses is 7 November 2024.

The European Commission has launched a consultation on extending the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (EU CBAM) to downstream products and implementing additional anti-circumvention measures. The initiative aims to address carbon leakage risks where EU producers might relocate production abroad or EU buyers switch to imports from countries with weaker climate policies. The proposed regulation would supplement the existing EU CBAM Regulation (EU) 2023/956, with final adoption planned for the fourth quarter of 2025. The consultation period runs from 1 July to 26 August 2025.

The European Commission's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Office has initiated a targeted stakeholder consultation process to gather input on the future guidelines for defining AI systems and the implementation of AI practices deemed to pose unacceptable risk under the EU AI Act. The guidelines aim to assist national authorities, providers, and deployers in complying with the EU AI Act's rules on the practices before the relevant provisions become applicable on 2 February 2025. Stakeholders, including AI system providers, businesses, national authorities, academia, research institutions, and civil society, are invited to submit their comments until 11 December 2024. The inputs received will inform the final guidelines, which are scheduled for publication in early 2025.

The European Commission has opened a consultation on a draft implementing regulation covering high-risk organic and in-conversion products from non-EU countries certified as organic, where there has been major, critical or repetitive non-compliance affecting their integrity or production. The regulation lists the high-risk products by country of origin and sets out the required identity checks, physical checks and sampling percentages for consignments. The consultation closes on 24 August 2026 and Commission adoption is planned for Q3 2026.

The European Commission has launched a public consultation seeking feedback on a draft implementing regulation specifying the content of quality reports under Regulation (EU) 2025/941 on European Union labour market statistics on businesses. The proposed regulation will set out detailed arrangements for quality reports covering the structure of earnings, the gender pay gap, the structure of labour costs, the labour cost index and job vacancies. The consultation is open until 3 April 2026, with adoption planned for Q3 2026.

The European Commission has launched a consultation on a draft implementing regulation that will establish minimum environmental sustainability requirements for public procurement of clean technologies under the EU Net Zero Industry Act. The regulation will set mandatory requirements for contracting authorities and entities engaged in procurement procedures for net-zero technology contracts, including wind power, heat pumps and grid technologies. The implementing regulation supplements Regulation (EU) 2024/1735 and aims to standardise environmental sustainability criteria in public procurement across the EU. The consultation is open for feedback from 16 September 2025 to 14 October 2025.

The European Commission has launched a consultation on two draft regulations under the amended Regulation (EU) 1227/2011 on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT), aimed at improving transparency and integrity in wholesale energy markets. The first proposal is a Delegated Regulation concerning inside information platforms and registered reporting mechanisms, which seeks to streamline the authorisation and supervision of entities reporting energy market data to the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER). The second proposal amends Implementing Regulation (EU) 1348/2014 to enhance how market data is reported to ACER, supporting better monitoring and reducing burdens on market participants. Responses are sought by 15 September 2025. If adopted, the Delegated Regulation will enter into force unless the European Parliament or Council objects within two months, while the revised Implementing Regulation will be subject to a Comitology Committee vote. Both regulations are expected to be adopted in early 2026, followed by a transition period.
