Article summary
The Department for Transport has launched a consultation on banning antisocial pavement parking in order to make pavements safer for people with disabilities and families, after finding that those with mobility or visual impairments may be less inclined to go outside because of cars parked on pavements. The consultation proposes three options to deal with the issue—improve the Traffic Regulation Order process, or change legislation to either allow local authorities with civil parking enforcement powers to enforce against ‘unnecessary obstruction of the pavement’ or introduce an England-wide prohibition on pavement parking. The consultation closes at 11.59 pm on 22 November 2020.
