The UK Space Agency has announced that a new 5G engineering hub is to be built in Oxfordshire, backed by over £3m of government funding and due to be completed in 2021. The hub will provide a testing facility showing the benefits of hybrid 5G and satellite communications networks, with the hope that, once demonstrated, the technology can be rolled out to businesses across the UK. The aim is that the ‘new facility will develop software that allows satellite networks, including low-Earth orbit networks, to be integrated into terrestrial public and private communications networks’.
