Article summary

The Care Quality Commission has announced that following the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, temporary changes, referred to as ‘easements’, have been made to the Care Act 2014. The easements were instated on 31 March 2020 and have been allowing local authorities to reduce their usual duties where necessary. The duties involved pertain to the completion of assessments, and the meeting of all needs habitually expected of said authorities. The Care Quality Commission has also clarified that in the event of an authority deciding to practice an easement, the reason for the decision, as well as the expected impact on adult social care, will be investigated, in an effort to prioritise the monitoring of providers.
