A Local Government Association (LGA) analysis has revealed that more than a million homes granted planning permission in the past 10 years have not been built yet. The figures show that only 1,530,680 out of 2,564,600 units with planning permission have been completed. The number of planning permissions granted for new homes has also doubled since 2012–13. Recognising the shortage of housing, the LGA has called on the government to give powers to councils to take action on unbuilt land with planning permission in the upcoming planning white paper.
