Ofgem has published the summary of responses and next steps in relation to the Transmission Network Use of System Charges (TNUoS) call for evidence launched in October 2021. The range of responses outline that facilitating the UK’s net zero target is perceived as difficult in the context of the charges generators face in certain charging zones, the current methodology in place assumes a centralised electricity system with large generating stations that no longer accurately reflects the transmission network in practice, and changes are noted as volatile and unpredictable, among other things. Ofgem states it will ask the National Grid Electricity System Operator to launch and lead taskforces in line with the Charges Futures arrangements that consider the root causes of unpredictability in TNUoS charges and how this may be addressed, as well as the examination of input data into the current model used to determine the locational element of TNUoS to ensure...
