The Institute for Government (IfG) has published a report on the 'Levelling Up the United Kingdom' white paper, issued on 2 February 2022. The IfG noted that it ‘does not provide a clear-sighted diagnosis’. The proposals for further devolution of powers and rewiring of Whitehall are seen positively as they could be 'genuinely radical', but the lack of a 'clear sense of priorities about which issues are most important, and where intervention can be most effective', entails the risk of the government 'falling well short of its targets'.
