The government has published their response to the Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee's report on local authority financial sustainability and the section 114 regime. In their response, the government address's 13 recommendations related to social care, funding, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, local authority commercial investment and audit and control. The government has said that, moving forward, they will work to provide the sector with a sustainable financial footing, enabling it to deliver vital frontline service and support other government priorities, whilst also considering the impact of the pandemic on local authority resources and service pressures to determine any future reforms.
