Article summary

The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee has indicated, in a report published on 3 June 2020, that it is concerned that the Cabinet Office ‘will not have the capability to successfully deliver campaign messages on [Brexit] preparations…at the same as delivering the major public health campaign’ for coronavirus (COVID-19). The Committee has outlined its concern that businesses badly impacted by coronavirus restrictions, as well as the public, will not have the capacity to follow both Brexit and coronavirus guidelines. The Committee has requested that the government set out, within June 2020, a concise and cost-justified plan for an ‘effective and timely communication campaign for the end of the Brexit transition period’ on 31 December 2020.
