What does Register of directors’ residential addresses mean?

Every company must keep a register of directors' residential addresses. The register must state the usual residential address of each of the company's directors unless the director's usual residential address is the same as his service address, in which case the register may instead contain a statement to that effect. This does not apply if the director's service address is stated to be 'the company's registered office. The register of directors' residential addresses is not open for inspection by members or any other person (CA 2006, s 165).

Residential addresses of individual directors—protection from disclosure Difference between service address and residential address It is important to understand the distinction under the Companies Act 2006 (CA 2006) between an individual director's service address and their residential address. A director’s residential address is protected information under the CA 2006 and may not be used or disclosed other than in a permitted way, or disclosed on the public register unless the director gives their residential address as their service address. The service address appears on the public register. Directors commonly use the company's registered address as their service address, but they could use their own residential address if they wanted to and had no objection to that address being placed on the public register.
