What does Metropolitan district mean?

A single-tier authority established by the Local Government Act 1972 with responsibility for the delivery of all services in their area. Metropolitan districts are described in the Local Government Act 1972 Sch 1 Pt I, by reference to existing administrative areas, and their names are prescribed by the Secretary of State in the Metropolitan Districts (Names) Order 1973 (SI 1973/137). ). 'District', without more, means, in relation to England, a metropolitan district or a non-metropolitan district: Local Government Act 1972 s.270(1); 'non- metropolitan district' means any district other than a metropolitan district: s.270(2).

Introduction to the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 This Practice Note provides an introduction to the provisions of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 (DAA 2021). It details the key provisions including the definition of domestic abuse, special measures as to evidence and participation in proceedings, provisions regarding the cross-examination of victims of abuse, domestic abuse protection orders (DAPOs) and domestic abuse protection notices (DAPNs). Bundle pagination error amounted to a procedural irregularity (RP v Barnsley Metropolitan District Council)

Local Government analysis: The Upper Tribunal (HESC Chamber) set aside the decision of the First-tier tribunal, in relation to an appeal by RP against her two sons’ Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The appellant’s argument that errors in bundle pagination made it difficult her to navigate the hearing thus putting her at a disadvantage, was accepted and considered to amount to procedural irregularity. Additionally, the First-tier tribunal had accepted that the EHCPs required changes to be made for clarity, but had not ordered the required changes to be made on the basis that they would be made at an anticipated review.
