Apprentice definition

What does Apprentice mean?

A person who is engaged by someone to be taught a trade or skill.

Strictly speaking an Apprentice is not an employee as the relationship is not one of 'master and servant'. The use and need of Apprentices has diminished significantly over the years. The status of an Apprentice still exists in law and his rights differ from employees. For example, it is very difficult to dismiss an apprentice on grounds of misconduct.
