The classes of heads of mission1 established by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations2 are:
(1) ambassadors or nuncios3 accredited to heads of state and other heads of mission of equivalent rank4;
(2) envoys, ministers and internuncios5 accredited to heads of state6; and
(3) chargés d'affaires accredited to ministers of foreign affairs7.
Heads of mission enjoy precedence in their respective classes in order of the date and time of taking up their function8.
