Pursuant to the Athens Convention as amended by the 2002 Protocol1, the liability of any carrier2 for the death of or personal injury to a passenger3 must in no case exceed 400,000 units of account4 per passenger on each distinct occasion5, although the carrier and the passenger may agree, expressly and in writing, to higher limits of liability6. The prescribed limits apply to the aggregate of all amounts recoverable in applicable claims7, and interest on damages and legal costs must not be included in the limits so prescribed8.
