83. Debts in respect of which orders can be made.

An individual who is unable to pay his debts may apply for a debt relief order1 to be made in respect of debts which are for a liquidated sum payable either immediately or at some certain future time and which are not excluded debts2 ('qualifying debts')3. Excluded debts are:


    (1)     any fine4 imposed for an offence and any obligation, including an obligation to pay a lump sum or to pay costs, arising under an order made in family proceedings5 or any obligation arising under a maintenance assessment or maintenance calculation6;
