The law governing the terms of enlistment, service and discharge in the Royal Marines is broadly the same as that governing the Royal Navy and reference should accordingly be made to the parts of this title governing such service1. However, Defence Council regulations make specific provision for the terms of enlistment and the general conditions of service in the Royal Marines2. The regulations provide for a person to be enlisted in the Royal Marines for a term beginning with the date of his enlistment for service in the Royal Marines and ending 12 years after that date
