Article summary

The Scottish Government has published a document titled ‘Recorded Crime in Scotland, 2019-2020’. The statistics show ‘there was almost no change in overall recorded crime compared to the previous year’ and that recorded crime fell by 24% in 2019 in comparison to a decade before. In addition, the statistics show that 1,681 crimes were reported under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 since it came into force on 1 April 2019, and account for a rise in overall non-sexual violent crime in 2019–20. However, other categories of non-sexual violent crime fell by 5% collectively. Further 107 crimes were recorded under the Coronavirus Act 2020 and the Health Protection (Coronavirus) (Restrictions) (Scotland) Regulations 2020, SSI 2020/103.
