Article summary

A former serving officer with the Greater Manchester Police is to be sentenced for selling sensitive information from police systems to assist a criminal. Mohammed Malik accessed and disclosed data and intelligence information to Mohammed Anis between 2017 and 2018. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) were able to successfully demonstrate a clear transactional relationship between Malik and Anis, with evidence showing a flow of information from Malik to Anis, and Malik having an expectation of money flowing in the opposite direction. Evidence used by the CPS included pictures of a car sent through Snapchat by Anis asking Malik to add the car to the police intelligence system, information about a red Seat Leon that was recovered by police with a bullet hole in the bumper, and screenshots from WhatsApp conversations. It was also proven that Anis was sharing some of the information he obtained from Malik with others.
