Recreational Charities Act 1958 definition

What does Recreational Charities Act 1958 mean?

An Act which provides that it shall be and be deemed always to have been charitable to provide, or assist in the provision of, facilities for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, if the facilities are provided in the interests of social welfare.

The Act does not derogate from the principle that a trust or institution to be charitable must be for the public benefit. The requirement that the facilities are provided in the interests of social welfare cannot be satisfied if the basic conditions set out in section 1(2A) of the Act are not met.
