The Department for International Trade (DIT) has published a summary of responses and the government’s response to its consultation on the raw cane sugar autonomous tariff rate quota (ATQ), which is used to import raw sugar cane into the UK. 84 responses were received to the consultation. In response, the government has announced that it will maintain an ATQ quota of 260,000 tonnes of raw cane sugar to apply from 1 January 2021. The quota will apply for 12 months with an in-quota rate of 0% and the volume will then reset annually on the 1 January 2020, subject to any future review.
