This edition reflects the introduction of the Employment Rights Act 2025, widely regarded as one of the most significant developments in employment law since the Equality Act 2010. With phased implementation from 2026 onwards, the Act introduces a major programme of reform to worker protections. Key measures covered include:
• Day-One Rights: Expansion of day-one entitlements, including rights relating to family leave.
• Unfair Dismissal: Strengthened protection from unfair dismissal, with reforms to qualifying periods and compensation.
• Zero-Hours Reform: Measures to address variable hours arrangements, including rights for workers with regular working patterns to access more predictable and stable hours and contracts that better reflect actual practice.
• Fire and Rehire: Significant restrictions on dismissal and re-engagement practices, with such dismissals subject to enhanced scrutiny and tighter justification requirements.
