Melanie Barbour

Ms Barbour trained as a solicitor and spent a long career in private practice and local government, before calling to the bar in 2020. While working as a solicitor she undertook a broad and varied practice in civil litigation. Areas she has particular experience and interest in include, Housing, Town and Country Planning, Regulatory work, Children and Families and Mental Health. She has appeared in the Court of Session, Sheriff Court and various tribunals. She also regularly sat as legal advisor to local government Planning Committees, Local Review Bodies and the Adoption and Fostering Panel. Since calling to the bar she has built a busy practice in civil litigation, with emphasis in housing law, family law and regulatory work. She is currently appointed as a legal member in the First Tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber) and sits regularly hearing cases and assessing if applications are to be accepted at sift stage. She was also appointed in 2020 to the First Tier Social Security Tribunal.
