Bwalya Chilufya-Musonda
Bwalya Chilufya-Musonda is a partner at B&M Legal Practitioners (Bowmans Zambia). Bwalya obtained her LLB from the University of Zambia and went on to work as State Advocate under the Ministry of Justice’s department of civil litigation, where she advised and represented the Republic of Zambia in litigation both in and outside the country. She later obtained her LLM in International Business and Trade Law, on a Fulbright scholarship, from the University of Illinois Chicago, Illinois, USA, where she simultaneously worked as Research Assistant. Bwalya has also gained certification in Legislative Drafting, Core Principles of Economic Regulation and Competition Economics, and Diplomatic Practice, Protocol and International Studies.
In 2013, Bwalya joined Corpus Legal Practitioners as an Associate, where she has amassed unrivalled experience advising both international and local clients across many industry sectors on their transactions in Zambia and risen through the ranks to Partner, a position she held till 2020 when she founded the Bowmans Zambia office.
Bwalya advises on mergers and acquisitions and capital market transactions, syndicated lending, corporate financing, project financing, export credit financing and debt restructuring. She also has a well-rounded view of the insurance sector and provides clients with commercially relevant advice in the most efficient manner.
She also advises on tax and competition law, including representing clients (whether merging parties or third-party challengers) regarding merger decisions made by both the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and the CCPC Tribunal.
