Matthew Baker

Matthew Baker is a partner in the financial services department. He advises a wide range of investment managers, banks and financial institutions on regulatory and commercial issues that arise within their businesses. Matt has particular experience in advising investment managers and institutional investors in relation to investment management, structuring and fund distribution matters.
 
He also advises financial institutions and other authorised firms on matters including: establishing and structuring new UK and global business operations; compliance; fund formations and distribution; custody arrangements; and CFD trading operations. He also regularly provides transactional support on the acquisition, disposal and reorganisation of regulated businesses or institutions across all financial sectors, including investment managers, brokers, insurers and lenders. Matt also provides regulatory expertise on enforcement and investigation matters, including internal and whistleblower investigations.
 
He also advises clients on the interpretation and implementation of EU and UK regulation, including MiFID II, MAR, AIFMD, sustainable finance and ESG regulation, and has also advised foreign banks, asset managers and others on their Brexit planning.
 
Matt is a contributing author to Financial Regulation: Emerging Themes in 2021 – an extensive collection of articles around the themes of Brexit; Regulatory Change; Regulatory and Litigation Risk; Technology; Governance; and Sustainability and People.
