Catherine Sheffield

EU Regulatory Specialist, Fieldfisher
I joined Fieldfisher's EU Regulatory team in September 2019. My role involves assistance with task force management, litigation, product compliance work and policy analysis.

Before joining Fieldfisher’s Brussels office, I was a Paralegal and Translator at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in Paris for twelve years, within their corporate and finance practice. I also completed a traineeship in 2018-2019 at the European Economic and Social Committee in the legislative work section for Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment and the Sustainable Development Observatory.
I hold an LLB (Hons) in Law with French and an MA in Translation Studies from the University of Hull, an LLM in French, European and International Business Law from the University of Paris II, and a MEng/Mastère Spécialisé in International Environmental Management from Tsinghua University and MINES ParisTech.

I am a native English speaker, and fluent in French.

Practice notes

This Practice Note provides a snapshot of the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) EU No 528/2012. It provides details on the objective and scope of the BPR and key definitions such as ‘active substances’, ‘biocidal product’, and ‘harmful organism’. It also provides guidance on approvals for active substances including information on the Article 95 list and exclusion criteria, as well as renewal and review of active substance approvals. The Practice Note also covers authorisation of products containing biocides (biocidal products), derogations, treated articles and data sharing. The final section provides details on how, following Brexit, the retained BPR in Great Britain differs from the EU BPR.
