Anton Roets

Anton was previously a partner in Webber Wentzel's competition law department. His areas of practice include all aspects of competition law in South Africa and Southern Africa (including Namibia, Botswana and Zambia) including merger notifications, abuses of dominance and related advice, competition and other regulatory litigation, pharmaceutical and petroleum regulatory advice and litigation. In addition to assisting the first applicant for corporate leniency in South Africa, Anton has also represented Consolidated Wire Industries (Pty) Ltd, a successful applicant for leniency, in defending the Competition Commission's leniency policy which resulted in a positive decision of the Supreme Court of Appeal. Anton represented Aspen Pharmacare in its notification of the acquisition of AHN in South Africa and Namibia, as well as Scaw in relation to the acquisition of an interest in Scaw by the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa. Furthermore, he represented Times Media Group in its acquisition of South African newspaper title Business Day. He has advised the merging parties in relation to the acquisition by Imperial Holdings of Probe Corporation South Africa (Pty) Ltd and the acquisition of KWS Carriers CC by Imperial Logistics before the Competition Tribunal. He recently formed part of the team which represented Ferro in its acquisition of Arkema Resins, which was conditionally approved by the Competition Tribunal. Anton has represented a variety of companies, such as Kumba Iron Ore, BP South Africa, Scaw, Anglo American South Africa, Tsogo Sun Holdings, ABSA Bank (a subsidiary of Barclays plc), BP Limited, Aspen Pharmacare Holdings Limited, Mpact Limited, GlaxoSmithKline, Caxton and CTP Printers and Publishers, Adcorp Holdings Limited, Times Media Group, Netcare Limited, Freeworld Limited, De Beers in both South Africa and various other Southern African countries including Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, COMESA, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Swaziland.
