Tim Hardy FCIArb is an independent mediator and arbitrator with over 30 years’ experience in dispute resolution. Following a successful City career, including 21 years leading the Commercial Litigation team at CMS, Tim now focuses on resolving complex domestic and international commercial disputes as a neutral.
Tim has practised as an accredited mediator for over 20 years and has mediated more than 100 disputes. His mediation experience includes banking and finance, commercial contracts, shareholder disputes, corporate disputes, engineering and construction, insolvency and restructuring, insurance, IT and outsourcing, partnership, professional negligence and real estate.
Tim also has extensive arbitration experience as advocate and arbitrator. He has acted in disputes under the rules of major international arbitration institutions, including ICC, LCIA, ICSID, LMAA and GAFTA, as well as ad hoc arbitrations under UNCITRAL. His arbitral appointments include disputes involving franchising, cryptocurrency, loan agreements, distribution agreements, mining rights, engineering projects, facilities management, charterparties and commercial services.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and holds a postgraduate diploma in international arbitration from Oxford University. He has served on the CIArb Board of Management, chaired its Practice and Standards Committee, and oversaw the redrafting of CIArb’s International Arbitration Practice Guidelines and Protocols.
