Colleen Hanley
Colleen Hanley has established a well-respected practice in a diverse range of commercial law disputes including shipping, commodities and international arbitration. This was presaged by being named one of only ten “Future Stars of the Bar” by The Times online. She regularly appears before the Commercial Court and various arbitration tribunals as well as sitting as an arbitrator mainly for the LCIA. In 2005 she worked for several months as in-house adviser at the Nordisk Shipowners’ Defence Club in Oslo. She regularly advises and acts for some of the world’s largest ship-owners and commodity trading houses.
Colleen also has expertise in both UK and European Competition Law having acted for 9 months as the Principal Legal Adviser at OFGEM, with responsibility for all competition law matters as well as advising on public and regulatory law issues. She has also acted for and advised both the OFT and the Competition Commission (now the CMA). In 2007 she worked in-house in the anti-trust department of Morgan Lewis Bockius in Washington DC and thereafter as a Visiting Fellow on Capitol Hill.
She speaks fluent German having cross-examined witnesses in German and advises a number of German-based or German-linked clients. She also speaks very good French and basic Italian.
