This Practice Note addresses practical aspects for the recognition or enforcement of judgments under the Convention of 2 July 2019 on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters, better known as the Hague Judgments Convention, which entered into force for the United Kingdom on 1 July 2025. It sets out the implementing framework and the threshold questions to determine if the convention is applicable. It then considers the application of the convention for the recognition or enforcement of judgments of the courts of England and Wales in another contracting state followed by the recognition or enforcement of foreign judgments in England and Wales.
