Douglas Mullen

Douglas heads the firm’s pensions team and works with employers and pension funds to resolve complex legal and practical issues. With over 20 years’ experience, he advises local authorities, pension funds, housing associations and charities on outsourcing services, pensions disputes and appeals, changes to pension benefits, scheme closures, admissions and exits, staff transfers, internal dispute resolution complaints and pensions ombudsman applications.
 
Douglas regularly advises on the Local Government Pension Scheme, Social Housing Pension Scheme, NHS Pension Scheme and Teachers’ Pension Scheme, and also has significant employment law expertise. His work includes staff transfers, redundancies, complex employment investigations and disputes, trade union relations and the crossover between employment and pensions law.
 
Douglas sits on the Association of Pension Lawyers’ public sector committee, leads the firm’s relationship with the National Local Government Pension Scheme Frameworks and manages Anthony Collins’ appointment to the framework’s approved panel of legal services providers. Recognised by the Legal 500 for his expertise in local government and social housing, he is valued by clients for explaining complex issues clearly and helping them find practical solutions that support the communities they serve.
