Simon is a co-founder of Bell Howley Perrotton and one of the UK’s leading advisers on SDLT, LTT, LBTT, private client tax and complex property-related tax matters. With more than 30 years’ experience gained in City law firms and accountancy practices, he advises private clients, companies, trustees, property investors and professional advisers on high-value, technically demanding advisory, structuring and dispute work.
Simon's practice combines market-leading property tax expertise with private client and family wealth advice. He advises on SDLT, LTT and LBTT, including higher rates, non-resident surcharge, partnership and LLP structuring, mixed-use and commercial property, company reconstructions, HMRC enquiries and historic claims. He also advises on inheritance tax, trusts, succession, family investment companies, estate matters and wider private client tax issues, particularly where private client planning intersects with property and business ownership.
Simon is a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians, the Chartered Institute of Taxation, the Federation of Tax Advisers, the Institute of Financial Accountants and the Institute of Public Accountants (Australia). He also sit on the Property Taxes Sub Committee of the CIOT’s Technical Policy and Oversight Committee, am a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers, and a member of the Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group.
Simon write and speak regularly on tax matters, including for Taxation Magazine, Tax Journal, Tax Adviser, Tax Insider and Tax Insider Pro. Outside work, He practises Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was proud to win silver medals at the European IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championships in 2025 and 2026.
