Ronan Dunne is a partner in Philip Lee LLP where leads the firm’s EU, Competition and State Aid practice. He advises public and private sector clients on the competition and regulatory aspects of commercial contracts, including the structuring, negotiation and compliance of complex vertical and strategic agreements. Ronan has particular expertise in distribution, supply, licensing and other long term commercial arrangements, with particular experience in advising on contract frameworks in the motor vehicle industry and pharmaceutical sector.
His practice also encompasses EU law, merger control and State aid, allowing clients to address regulatory risk alongside commercial objectives at the contracting stage. Ronan works across a broad range of regulated industries, with a particular focus on broadcasting and media, telecommunications, energy and transport, supporting clients on both contentious and advisory matters arising from commercial relationships.

Term and terminationWhere an agreement is silent as to contract duration or termination, in the event of a dispute, the Irish courts will apply common law principles to determine what the parties intended. To avoid uncertainty, it is common to include express contractual clauses which provide for the duration and termination of a contract. In general, contractual rights to terminate are in addition to, and not in substitution for, common law rights.
