Dr David Mangan

Prior to entering academic work, David practised as a lawyer (barrister and solicitor) in Canada, and held consulting positions. Since obtaining his Ph.D. in the U.K., David has held academic positions in Canada and the UK. He is currently based at the School of Law and Criminology Maynooth University (Ireland). He is an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School (Professional Development) in Toronto and at Université Catholique Lyon, Faculty of Law. David has held visiting professorships at: KU Leuven; the University of Pescara-Chieti; Università degli Studi di Milano; University of Warsaw; the Marco Biagi Foundation at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. He has also been awarded a Land Steiermark Fellowship at the University of Graz.
 
His research focuses on labour/employment and obligations (contract, tort), particularly the effect of information technology in these areas. Books include: Privacy at Work (Wolters Kluwer, 2023) (with Frank Hendrickx and Elena Gramano); The Legal Challenges of Social Media (Edward Elgar, 2017) (with Lorna Gillies); The Role of Labour Standards in Development: From Theory to Sustainable Practice? (Oxford University Press/The British Academy, 2011) (with Tonia Novitz). He has delivered a number of talks and public lectures including in Hamburg (Germany), Budapest (Hungary) as well as delivering the Roger Blanpain Lecture at KU Leuven.
 
He is a member of the Editorial Board of the European Labour Law Journal. David is also co-editor of the Wolters Kluwer blog Global Workplace Law and Policy, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Italian Labour Law e-Journal. David is also a Ph.D. supervisor with Advance CRT (funded by Research Ireland).
 
Amongst other roles at Maynooth University, David is founding director of the Technology Law & Policy Centre and Chair of the UC Lyon dual degree program (Etudes Juridiques).
