Where a tax resident of Australia is the owner of a property that derives rental income overseas, that income is assessable (taxable) income and reportable in Australia on the taxpayer's tax return for the relevant year ended 30 June. The main exception to this is where the taxpayer qualifies as a temporary resident under Australian tax law. Temporary residents are not subject to tax in Australia
