E1.456 Life insurance gains—information

Where a chargeable event takes place, the body which issued the policy or contract concerned (the insurer) is required to provide a certificate to the policyholder giving details of the event (see E1.456A) and (in most cases) to HMRC (see E1.456B). The insurer has to keep sufficient records to enable HMRC to verify that a certificate has been issued in all relevant cases; HMRC may require information about the policy or contract or make the records available for inspection (see E1.456D).
