I8.379 Employee share options

Some employees enter into share option schemes with their employers. In such schemes the employee has a right to purchase shares at a future date at a fixed price. Where a death or transfer takes place within the option period, the personal representatives or the employee may have the right to exercise the option within a certain period of time, for example, within the next twelve months. If this is the case, the option forms part of the chargeable estate1. The value of the option is not necessarily the difference between the value of the shares
