I7.140A Minimum period of ownership for BPR shares

Shares or securities are not relevant business property for the purposes of business property relief (BPR) unless they were owned by the transferor throughout the two years immediately preceding the transfer, or he owned them, or any relevant business property they replaced, for a total of two years falling within the five years immediately before the transfer1. Both the replaced property and the new property must satisfy all the requirements for being classed as relevant business property other than the two-year ownership requirement2, but the replaced property need not have been company
