I4.201 Exemptions on death―introduction

References to a transfer of value in the IHT legislation extend to transfers on death, because that is an event on which tax is charged as if a transfer of value had been made. As with lifetime transfers of value, transfers of value made on death can either be exempt or chargeable1 — IHTA 1984, ss 18–29A (Pt II, Ch I) deals with exempt transfers.
