I4.112 A qualifying interest in possession (QIIP) as part of the death estate

The estate of a person immediately before his death for IHT purposes includes settled property in which there was a qualifying interest in possession (QIIP)1 — see I5.201 for further information on QIIPs.

Before 22 March 2006, if settled property was subject to an interest in possession to which an individual was beneficially entitled, it was taxed as if it was the property of that individual and treated as included in his estate on death.
