I2.102 Application of the Interpretation Act 1978

The Interpretation Act 1978 consolidates and makes minor amendments to the Interpretation Act 1889 and other enactments concerning the constitution and operation of Acts of Parliament; it was based on a report of the Law Commission1. The Act contains definitions of a number of terms which are to be applied unless a contrary intention appears2. It also contains a number of provisions concerning the enactment and operation of statutes3 and the effect of repealing enactments4. It also permits the anticipatory exercise of powers where the Act
