I12.712 Growth shares in family companies

For many family companies, inheritance tax issues do not arise owing to the availability of 100% business property relief on all unquoted shareholdings in trading companies. However there is no such relief available for shares in investment companies. Although it is unusual to come across a private company holding a portfolio of shareholdings, whether quoted or otherwise, private property companies are very much more common. One way of improving the inheritance tax position in relation to such companies is to divide the share capital into two different categories, one carrying capital and income rights
