D7.502 Definition of a life insurance company

The rules in this division apply for accounting periods beginning before 1 January 2013. For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2013 see Division D7.4.

A person may only carry on life insurance business in the UK if that person falls into one of the following categories:

  1.  

    (a)     A person authorised under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 Pt IV (ss 40–55).

  2.  

    (b)     A company formed under the law of an EU member state other than the UK or of Gibraltar, Iceland, Norway or Liechtenstein:
