D7.1264 Video games tax relief—additional deduction relief

A video game production company may claim an additional deduction in respect of qualifying expenditure1. For these purposes, 'qualifying expenditure' refers to core expenditure2 that would normally be taken into account3 in calculating the profit or loss of the trade for tax purposes4. Where core expenditure includes sub-contractor payments5 which (in total) exceed £1m, the excess is not 'qualifying expenditure'6.

The relief is claimed through the company tax return (see D7.1258).
